Job Description

Uber has built one of the most sophisticated transportation management systems in the world spanning 70+ countries so far. But to make it work like magic for drivers and riders requires deeply sophisticated geospatial systems. We’ve assembled a top-notch maps engineering team that is working on advanced mapping, local search and navigation capabilities to meet Uber’s very specific geo use cases. To support that effort we’re crafting an equally impressive business development team to source and negotiate partnerships with the best mapping/LBS content and technology players globally.

What you’ll do

  • Strategy. Work closely with our Maps PM/Eng team on our mapping strategy as well as our long term partnerships game plan
  • Research. Find suppliers in each applicable country and evaluate quality, coverage, reputation, standard terms, pricing, open source options, etc.
  • Negotiate. Do the best deals possible – balancing the metrics of data quality, partner capabilities, speed, cost and license terms that meet Uber’s long term considerations.
  • Lead the deal process from relationship building, partner assessment, contract negotiations and deal documentation
  • Manage relationships with our most strategic partners for long term mutual benefit
  • Be a leading mapping/LBS resource inside Uber and demonstrate your knowledge and our partnerships to help all of Uber’s businesses and geographies
  • Handle inbound LBS company approaches and figure out applicability inside Uber

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum 8 years work experience preferably in Business Development, Marketing, PM and/or Program Management
  • 4+ years geospatial/LBS knowledge and experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and self-drive to get things accomplished
  • Experience with establishing, maintaining and leveraging senior relationships
  • Ability to fuse business, strategy, finance and legal concepts to lead deals
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • A love of deal making and the assertiveness necessary to press for the best deal possible
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations globally
  • Ability, and willingness, to mind the details... and roll up your sleeves even on small deals
